@matigo A lot of English speakers feel like English spelling is bonkers, too. Spelling and script reform just never overcame inertia for long. There were some solid tries with Deseret, Pitman phonography, and Shavian, though.
(FWIW I read the LL as a digraph that happens to be pronounced the same as a single L, rather than one silent L and one spoken.)
